Sizzle — a daily word game for the whole family
Find the hidden five-letter word in six guesses. Every letter you try comes back cold, warm or sizzling.
What it is
Sizzle is one of six original daily games in Streakhouse. Everyone in your circle gets the same hidden five-letter word each day, and you each get six tries to find it. Every letter you guess lands on a hot skillet, and how hot it gets tells you how close you are.
How to play
- Type any five-letter word and submit it.
- Each letter comes back cold (not in the word), warm (in the word, but in a different spot) or sizzling (right letter, right spot).
- Use what that tells you for your next guess.
- Solve it before your six guesses run out.
How scoring works
Solve it in three guesses or fewer for a full 100. A solve on the fourth guess scores 83, the fifth 67 and the sixth 50. The clock never counts, so there is no reason to rush. If the word beats you, the letters you found still score between 10 and 35 — always less than any solve.
A worked example
An invented example, not a real day’s word.
Say the hidden word is LADLE.
- Guess 1, STONE: S, T, O and N are cold. E is sizzling — the word ends in E.
- Guess 2, PLACE: P and C are cold. L and A are warm: both are in the word, just not in those spots. E sizzles again.
- Guess 3, LADLE: every letter sizzles. Solved in three, for 100 points. A fourth guess would have made it 83.
Why it works across generations
Sizzle rewards vocabulary and patience rather than speed, which is why grandparents tend to be dangerous at it. There is no timer, the answers are everyday family-friendly words rather than obscure ones, and because everyone gets the same word, the conversation afterwards is about how you got there — not who typed fastest.
How it feeds the family streak
Sizzle is one of the five scored games in a Streakhouse day. Playing any scored game counts you as having played, and your circle’s shared streak grows each night that enough of you have. Your score goes on the circle’s leaderboard beside everyone else’s — the board compares scores, never guesses — and the share card shows heat and a score, never the word.
